The former Steelback Brewery facility could be busy again in the near future.
However, beer won’t be the product.
The Power Workers Union Training Inc. group is in the process of getting all their ducks in a row to purchase the building from the Sherman Group.
Executive Director of PWU Training Bob Menard was before Kincardine Planning Committee recently, looking to change the facility from industrial to a learning facility.
Menard says the building would be used for electrical industrial training.
He says the 2-storey building will allow them to teach students about the climbing aspects of a power workers job.
Menard says the facility will provide skills for those just entering the workforce or for those that want specialized training in the electrical field.
There were concerns from nearby GreenField Ethanol that an institution type building would be in the middle of what is obviously an industrial complex.
GreenField was concerned they would be dealing with what were called “nuisance complaints” about some noise, dust or odour issues.
However, Menard says the two sides have come to an agreement in writing and the training facility can move ahead.
The Planning Committee has given the training facility its blessing to move ahead as well.
