The Saugeen Shores Waterfront Committee mandate needs a little tweaking.
Councillors were not prepared to accept what was presented to them on Monday night — and the most provocative comment came from Southampton ward councillor Thead Seaman.
He warned council that they must choose the committee members carefully.
Seaman says he doesn’t want to see anyone on the committee with a hidden agenda.
He said he couldn’t say what that agenda was without naming names but he feels the ones referred to will know what he’s talking about.
Seaman says they need members who will look at the bigger picture for the entire waterfront area of the town.
The committee itself will have 7 members which includes 2 members of council.
Councillor Diane Huber says the committee mandate to her suggests they’d come up with some terms of reference and then they’d hire a consultant.
Huber says there are plenty of consultants in town that can add to the committee and she hopes they can hear from as many people as possible.
So the committee and its mandate is on hold.
Town clerk Linda White says council wants town staff to do a more in-house review of the waterfront committee and they will do that.
A report is expected before council again on February 14th.
It’s hoped any committee will help create a master plan for the town’s waterfront areas.
