The Hanover and District Hospital is starting the new year off on the right foot.
Hospital Chair Allan Fisher says they are entering the third quarter with a 370 thousand dollar surplus.
Fisher credits lower patient volume which has resulted in reduced staffing costs.
But Fisher says more needs to be done about physician recruitment.
He says as more doctors approach retirement age, it’s critical the hospital hire at least two new doctors soon.
Fisher says this doctor shortage is being felt as the hospital struggles to staff the ER.
He adds the hospital is also being bombarded with new legislation and government reports which are sure to keep staff busy in the upcoming months.
