Construction in the City of Owen Sound ended 2010 up considerably over 2009.
Stats show 71.6 million dollars in building permits being issued last year.
Much of that increase due to the New Regional Rec Centre amounting to 39.5 million.
Even with the rec centre numbers removed — 2010 would still be 8.4 million dollars over the numbers from 2009.
December numbers were down however, compared to 2009 — the construction value last month was 580 thousand compared to 3.8 million in 2009.
470 building permits were issued in 2009 compared to 451 in 2010.
Owen Sound development co-ordinator Sandra Parks says the home renovation tax credit ended in January of 2010 so didn’t have much of an impact as it did in 2009.
Parks says two sectors are up significantly over last year — Commercial projects were valued at 16.1 Million and Institutional projects including the Rec Centre valued at 44.8 Million.
Major projects issued permits during December include Alterations to existing buildings valued at 300 thousand dollars and construction of a single family dwelling worth 140 thousand.
