Chatsworth and Walter’s Falls residents are the latest to be hit by increasing water rates.
Water Services Co-ordinator Carolyn Marx says rates are going up five per cent over 2010 for both the fixed rate and cubic meter usage rate.
She says the previous amount on a 3 quarter inch connection line was $29.65 and is now going up to $31.13.
The lowest cubic meter rate was $1.83 for your first 30 cubic meters used and Marx says that’s now at $1.92.
The increases this year are in play at every municipality in Ontario as the Province’s has new mandatory standards.
They include a mandatory financial plan and drinking water licenses.
Marx says they have just received their drinking water licensing requirements from for both systems.
Now Marx says they have until the first of June to get a financial plan into the province — which she add’s will definitely impact capital costs.
Two watermain breaks in Chatsworth on Highway 6 and on Highway 10 last year also impact capital costs this year.
Marx says the breaks created a deficit of 12 thousand dollars in 2010.
There are 217 water users in Chatsworth and 48 users in Walter Falls.
