The McQuay Tannery Seniors Resource Centre near the Bayshore Community Centre is just about ready to officially open its doors.
Owen Sound Councillor and Co-Chair of the Centre Jan Chamberlain says the new centre will provide local seniors with the ability to access community services.
She says seniors were often going to the Bayshore Community Centre in search of information on community programs and services.
The aim of the new centre is to have all information pertaining to the senior population under one roof.
Chamberlain adds it could be something as simple as a senior wanting to know where to play bridge – to accessing information on health services for seniors.
A 5 thousand dollar donation from Seasons Retirement Residence certainly helped move the project forward.
Chamberlain says the partnership between Seasons and the McQuay Tannery Seniors Resource Centre will continue as the centre continues to grow.
The centre will be looked after by local seniors and will not be funded with public money.
Chamberlain says she hopes the centre can secure funding from the Older Adults Centres Association of Ontario.
No official opening date has been announced as of yet.
