Next time you are around City hall, or the Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound, remember to smile and wave.
The city has recently installed cameras at City Hall, but the cameras at the Bayshore have been there for a few years.
Acting City Manager Glen Henry says council recently reviewed the rules and regulations regarding their use.
He declined to say how many cameras are operational or where they are but re-assures the public that no cameras have been placed in washrooms or change rooms.
The video cameras are seen as a deterrent to crime.
Henry says the recording system is in a locked and secure area, with the video only viewed by authorized personnel including police officers.
He says the information is recorded over after 14 days unless it is being used in an investigation.
It’s not the first time cameras have been set up in Owen Sound as a deterrent to crime.
The DIA set up six cameras in the core area in 2006 to try and curb vandalism and other illegal acts.
Those cameras are not currently working.
