Kincardine is under a new governance system at least for the time being.
At Wednesday’s meeting — it was decided the Committee of the Whole system would be used at least through the budget sessions, rather than the committee system the municipality has been using to this point.
Mayor Larry Kraemer says under the new system, all council members make decisions on issues that, under the old system, had to go through another level of bureaucracy before reaching the council floor.
Under the new system, six major advisory groups will remain in place with a council member being appointed the policy chair in each case.
Kraemer says they’ll try the system out for a few months before committing to the set-up on any long term basis.
It calls for various committees, departments and even the general public to make their presentations directly to council, rather than dealing with a sub-committee first.
