The President of Leader Resources Charles Edey gave an update to Saugeen Shores Council on Monday night about two wind energy projects that affect Saugeen Shores.
But more importantly he was there to urge everyone to start listening to the truth about wind turbines.
Edey says more dialogue needs to get started and more information needs to be shared to balance what he calls “mis-truths.”
Edey says wind energy projects are providing, “the new milk cheques” to area farmers.
Edey says the Arran project is providing almost a million dollars to farmers over 20 years while the North Bruce project is providing over 1.6 million during that same time frame.
Edey pointed to over 20 area farmers who were in council chambers Monday night, of their own accord, supporting what Leader wants to do.
One of those was Port Elgin area farmer Peter Chappell.
He said while he doesn’t have a turbine on his property, his neighbour does and he supports the process.
Chappell says he’s made deliveries that brought him near turbines and he didn’t hear a thing.
Meanwhile, Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith says there are solutions out there to the wind turbine controversy.
He says the issue has polarized communities unnecessarily and it’s time to find that solution.
The Arran Elderslie wind project will have 9 turbines on town soil while all others will be in Arran Elderslie.
The North Bruce project will house 22 turbines on Saugeen Shores land.
