It’s an issue Saugeen Shores new Deputy Mayor hammered on during the municipal election campaign.
Luke Charbonneau wants to see the Waterfront Committee brought back, and it looks like he’s one step closer to seeing that idea realized.
Mayor Mike Smith says the Striking Committee met last Wednesday to select the public members for council’s ad-hoc committees.
And during that meeting, Smith says they came up with a recommendation that staff come up with terms of reference for an ad-hoc waterfront committee.
If council agrees on the terms, Smith believes they will start advertising for public members of the waterfront committee in February.
Smith says there has been a lot of interest in the waterfront development plans this past term.
There used to be a waterfront committee, but it was eventually tied in with parks and trails.
As for the existing committees, Smith says there were about 65 people who applied, and the Striking committee will make recommendations to council at the next meeting.
Smith says, as always, it’s a tough job to narrow down the list because there are a lot of great people to choose from.
He says it’s great to see so much interest from the community.
The committees are chosen every two years.
