Ontario Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak wants to stop the Hydro hikes proposed by the Liberal government through their policies.
Hudak — in Hanover at a home improvement store on Thursday — says nowadays the hydro bill is the most feared bill that comes into a household.
He says thanks to smart meters, the Green Energy Act, and massive subsidies to the foreign conglomerate Samsung, electricity bills are skyrocketing.
Hudak says hydro rates have increased as much as 75 per cent and the bills are going up a further 46 per cent within five years.
He says an average Hanover family pays about 126 dollars a month for hydro.
According to analysis conducted by the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, Hanover area residents will see this bill rise to 187 dollars a month over the next five years — representing an increase of 732 dollars a year.
Hudak says his government will deliver an energy plan that puts consumers first.
He says Smart Meters would become voluntary; the foreign subsidies would be scrapped and control of where wind turbines go would be a responsibility that would be returned to individual municipalities.
On a lighter note, Hudak was informed of the recent election prediction of outgoing Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch who said the Tories will win a majority and the Liberals will be reduced to third party status this Fall.
Hudak said he wasn’t going to disagree in Murdoch territory but he does know in the riding new candidate Bill Walker will represent the constituents well.
