Bruce Power is giving a heads up to area businesses and landlords.
Expect to see some of the recent economic boom at the Bruce nuclear generating station in Tiverton dry up in the next year.
Bruce Power Community and Government Relations Manager Ross Lamont says they had about three thousand employees at the site this year.
And Lamont says that number is expected to drop to around 1 thousand by the end of next year.
Lamont explains as the work gets done at Bruce Power’s current refurbishment, the trades are moving on to other projects.
He says that means there will likely be a noticeable drop in people in stores and rental units.
Lamont says it works both ways.
There will be less pressure on services but that portion of the economic boom will be gone.
That is until the refurbishment of the other units gets underway as announced by the province recently under their Long Term Energy Plan.
Meanwhile, the focus at the current refurbishment is now commissioning and paperwork.
Lamont says when you run a nuclear reactor you have to have all the paperwork in place for the regulator to assure that everything is put together properly.
