You’ve probably seen those robotic competitions on TV where one school pits it’s robot creation against another.
This year you just might see the team from Kincardine District Secondary School.
Since the beginning of the school year, there have been about 30 students at KDSS in robot mode.
They’re members of the KDSS Robotics Team that is getting ready to compete in a regional competition in Cleveland, Ohio.
Co-captain of the team Janelle Taylor says at this point the KDSS squad is the only Canadian team in the International competition.
Taylor says the team has been practicing with design issues and generally problem solving in anticipation of the instructions they will get in the new year.
She says in January they will be given their challenge and then given six weeks to build their robot according to the specifications and expected capability of the machine, in the challenge.
Taylor says they’ll be given very specific instructions accompanied by a huge manual and a tool kit however they are allowed to enhance with their own supplies and materials.
She says the Robotics club has done quite well in regional competitions in the past and they look forward to being successful as they travel state-side.
Students have been raising 12 thousand dollars to take part in the bus trip.
Each student will pay 100 dollars as well.
The Bluewater District School Board has approved the trip which will take place next April.
