Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch feels the coyote population in Ontario is out of control, and he says coyote attacks are skyrocketing.
Murdoch says the predatory animal is coming after livestock, and he fears family pets and humans are next as their natural food source declines.
The local Conservative MPP is drafting a petition that calls on the province to permit a 200 dollar bounty on coyotes.
Murdoch tells Bayshore Broadcasting News he will present the petition to Queens Park in the new year.
There already is a bounty on coyotes in Grey and Bruce counties, along with several other counties in the province but Murdoch claims the collection process is very complicated.
Grey County pays 50 dollars per animal, and Bruce County 100 dollars.
MPP Murdoch says there should be one uniform bounty for all of Ontario.
Many local farmers say livestock losses by coyote have hit a critical level.
It is estimated some six thousand lambs and sheep are killed each year on Ontario farms by coyotes.
