Today, the Grey Bruce Health Unit received laboratory results confirming Influenza A in a resident at a seniors facility in Grey Bruce.
Area health care practitioners are being alerted and will be performing appropriate testing on individuals experiencing flu symptoms.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit reminds everyone that it is important to prevent the spread of disease.
Shular says Everyone working in or visiting a seniors facility should get a flu vaccine.
When in a facility, she says you need to follow all precautions to prevent the spread of disease including hand washing/sanitization and wearing personal protective equipment, if advised.
Travel and gatherings over the holiday season can also contribute to the spread of illness.
Shular says it is not too late to get a flu shot; it does take about two weeks for the vaccine to become fully effective.
A free flu shot is available by appointment at Grey Bruce Health Unit clinics in Owen Sound or Walkerton.
