After 36 years in municipal government Mike Myatt is calling it a career — almost.
Myatt has served as Community Services Director in Saugeen Shores for 9 years and prior to that, 26 years with Owen Sound Parks and Recreation.
Myatt’s retirement takes effect on December 31st and then after a month off, he will be back on likely a one year contract basis with Saugeen Shores as Manager of Special Projects, February 1st.
Myatt refers to the swimming pool issue for the town, along with possible renovations to the olde town hall in Southampton.
But he says he will be analyzing policies for the town as well.
One that comes to mind in an alcohol policy that surprisingly the town does not have at this point when it comes to special events.
In leaving his current position, he does admit the waterfront, particularly in Port Elgin has been somewhat neglected over the years, in favour of trail development and the replacement of all the town’s playground with safe equipment.
However, Myatt says he expects a financial request will be coming at budget time to help develop a waterfront master plan.
Myatt is not sure how far the master plan will extend but it will definitely focus on the Port Elgin waterfront.
Any money forthcoming will be decided at upcoming budget talks.
If there is money for the plan, Myatt will manage the process.
