The heavy snow has made our roads dangerous today and we have many accidents reported.
In fact — the Western Region OPP say have they have responded to well over 600 motor vehicle collisions in the snow today.
Owen Sound Police, South Bruce OPP and Blue Mountains – Collingwood OPP are strongly advising drivers to stay off the roads.
Some of the crashes that kept Police busy today include a four-vehicle pile-up this morning on Highway 26 at Woodford — but no injuries were reported.
Highway 26 is proving to be quite dangerous as another minor two-car collision took place on Sykes Street in Meaford.
Three vehicles also wound up in the ditch this morning outside of Meaford.
Near Underwood there have been a couple of problems as well – a car went into the ditch on Bruce Road 20 this morning, and another on Concession 6.
Saugeen Shores Police report that the weather has caused more accidents in the area than usual at this time of year.
For the most part, police say people are very good and cautious drivers in the extreme weather, but they’ve still had 10 collisions since the beginning of December, and seven ditched cars.
Several cars went off the road on 8th Street East in front of the Owen Sound hospital this morning, resulting in a closure of that road for some time.
OPP also report several cars going off the road near Owen Sound, Flesherton and Listowel.
Police remind you to drive carefully, don’t travel if you don’t have to, and stay off of roads that are closed.
Driving on a closed road could result in a 110 dollar fine.
Also, your insurance may not cover you if you get into an accident on a closed road.
