Almost half of the employees at Bruce Power have said thanks, but no thanks, to a company gift of a Christmas turkey.
Bruce Power Community and Government Relations Manager Ross Lamont says last year employees suggested that instead of turkeys for employees, who are doing pretty well financially anyway, why not donate to the food banks in the region.
Lamont reported to Bruce County council recently that the option was given this year and they got a good response.
As a result, some 60 thousand dollars that would have been spent on employee turkeys has been donated to 16 area food banks.
Lamont says the workers wanted to help those who are less fortunate than themselves in the area.
