Before too long, Kincardine could be operating under a different governance structure.
About a dozen members of the Tiverton and District Ratepayers Association showed up at council Thursday urging the group to keep the status quo, which is public advisory group committee system where issues are aired out and then brought back to council by a councillor on that committee.
Association Vice-President Ed Roberts suggests the councillors have been pushed into a decision that really needs more time and study before changing any governance structure, if indeed it’s necessary at all.
However in a straw poll Thursday night — it appeared 7 of the 8 councillors along with Larry Kraemer favour a Committee of the Whole structure where all information comes directly from any special purpose committee to council.
Councillor Randy Roppel was the dissenting vote.
Kraemer says Committee of the Whole is really the default way of operating a council with all members making a decision.
Kraemer suggests the new system at least be tried out for 3 or 4 months before any commitment is made for the next four years.
Meanwhile. Councillor Ken Craig suggests trying the new system out with a couple of major advisory groups still in place like Parks and Recreation and Economic Development.
Councillors will be on the hot seat December 15th when some sort of decision is expected from them.
