The Ultimate Fighting Championship has confirmed they will stage their first ever Ontario based event on April 30th at the Rogers Centre in Toronto
UFC Canada President Tom Wright states he expects record attendance for mixed martial arts in North America at the Toronto event which will be UFC 131.
The announcement of the Toronto date was Tuesday, and immediately financial projections for the event were made.
Wright believes the economic impact for Ontario from hosting the event will be 30 to 40 million dollars.
Mixed martial arts combines a variety of fighting styles from boxing and kickboxing to jiu-jitsu and wrestling.
Previously, mixed martial arts were banned in Ontario, even though shows in Quebec and B.C. had been very successful from every regard
Wright says while he’s very excited about the Toronto show, he’s also excited about this weekend’s event in Montreal.
