A four month long investigation into the shooting death of a former Owen Sound man is now over.
The Calgary Police Service investigated the death of 50 year old Wilbert Bartley in Kamloops, B.C — who died when he was shot by an RCMP officer.
The incident took place at July 30th, 2010, when two plainclothes RCMP officers parked behind a Toyota 4-Runner at a convenience store.
That truck then rammed the RCMP vehicle and an officer fired 2 shots, one hitting Bartley.
At the request of the RCMP, a team of investigators from the Calgary Police Service arrived in Kamloops the next day, lead by Staff Sergeant Rick Tuza.
Tuza tells Bayshore Broadcasting News now that their investigation is complete it has been forwarded to the Crown Attorney in B-C to determine whether their was any wrong doing on the part of the RCMP.
He says it was not his mandate to determine whether any charges should result, but rather to gather all the information as an independent investigator.
Five Calgary police officers were involved in the probe, and spent the last four months compiling a report which includes statements from the officers and witnesses, and forensic evidence.
The report was forwarded Tuesday to the B-C Crown Prosecutors office for review.
Staff Sergeant Tuza says an inquiry could be called into the shooting.
Last summer, Bartley’s mother Catherine told Bayshore Broadcasting news her son had been murdered by police.
