Provincial police on Manitoulin Island are investigating a fire that claimed the life of a woman.
Emergency crews were called late Monday night and when they arrived, they found a home in Little Current fully engulfed.
It’s believed a man and woman were sleeping when the man was woken up by a smoke detector.
He tried twice to rescue the woman but was forced out of the home by the smoke and flames.
The identity of the woman is not being released until next of kin are notified.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
