The first blast of winter in southern Ontario has led to frustration for the OPP.
Sergeant Dave Rektor says highway safety remains a top priority for the Ontario Provincial Police especially during winter driving conditions.
In the past 12 hours police have responded to 200 crashes and the number is climbing.
With winter weather predicted for the next several days — police are pleading with motorists to travel well below the posted speed limit.
The OPP remind all motorists that there is not magic to safe winter driving, all it requires an ounce of common sense and slow speeds.
Some motorists traveling in SUVs and transport trucks have a false sense of security and seem to travel at or over the posted limits.
Police say the number one reason people crash is due to speed.
The other reason is related to those who are too close behind those who are speeding in the first place.
The OPP also remind all citizens NOT to call the OPP Communications Centre for Road or weather conditions.
