Today is a national day for remembrance and action on violence against women.
The Southport chapter of the Canadian Federation of University Women will hold a vigil in Port Elgin today in memory of the 14 female students killed in the Montreal Massacre.
It was 21 years ago that a gunman shot down the engineering students at Ecole Polytechnique at the University of Montreal.
Thirteen other students were wounded.
Many mark December 6th, 1989, as the worst single-day massacre in Canadian history.
The local CFUW is holding the vigil at noon at Coulter Parkette, at the corner of Green and Goderich streets.
There is a memorial in Owen Sound tonight at 6:30 PM at Division Street United Church isfollowed by a concert at 7:30 PM that will feature musician and spoken word artist Evalyn Parry and some of OSCVI students.
