A planned expansion of the Chesley Medical clinic has been delayed, and the project won’t likely be done until next Fall 2011.
Co-Chair of the Fundraising Committee, Clarke Birchard tells Bayshore Broadcasting News that the plan was put on the backburner this fall because of the municipal election.
Birchard says Arran Elderslie council didn’t want to commit to the 1.3 million dollar project, just before a new council was sworn in.
Birchard says tenders will be awarded at the council meeting on January 10th and work would get underway in the spring.
Currently, the six doctors and the Family Health team are operating with under 3 thousand square feet of space, plus some space in the basement of the Chesley hospital.
Birchard says their goal is to raise most of the estimated 1.3 million dollar cost.
They have collected 270 thousand, and have a pledge of 400 thousand from the Chesley Hospital foundation for the medical clinic expansion.
Birchard says fundraising is also on hold, until tenders are awarded in the new year.
