Primary construction on the addition to the South Bruce Grey Health Centres Walkerton Site is nearing completion.
South Bruce Grey Health Centre Vice President of Corporate Services, Walter Yewchyn told a board meeting recently the development, which broke ground last November, is now a completely enclosed structure.
Yewchyn says the new ground and second floors are also nearing completion and the building contractor estimates the work will be done by Christmas.
The existing ground and second floors in the Hospital will be renovated once the addition is finished, completing the project expected in February.
Yewchyn says the expansion will be a tremendous boost to the efficiency of health care delivery and the availability of services to South Bruce Grey.
Once finished, the addition will provide room for the rapidly expanding Family Health Team, Physician Suites, and two new Birthing Suites for SBGHCs busy Birthing Centre.
Yewchyn says the project should come in at just over 3.9-million-dollars however an additional $165,000 is being spent on some renovation work that is easier to do now than later.
He says the old roof is in rough shape and needs to be placed as does some of the wood of the roof which is rotting.
In addition the entire parking lot will be re-done with final re-paving next Spring.
Included with that is curbs, parking gates and walkways.
Yewchyn says the 165 thousand dollars will come from the hospital’s operational budget.
