We’ve learned more about that deadly plane crash near Hanover at Lake Rosalind.
Peter Rowntree — a Senior Investigator with the Transportation Safety Board — says the indications are that the engine was not running at the time of the accident.
He says that put the pilot into a forced approach and the reason the engine stopped, may be from serious icing problems with the carburetor.
He says fixed winged aircraft are susceptible to “carb icing” and temperatures Sunday afternoon were the right spread to cause serious icing problems with the carburetor.
Rowntree does say though that he will examine the planes engine further at their Richmond Hill shop — and nothing is official at this point.
72 year old John Davidson of Stoney Creek was flying a light Zenair aircraft when it crashed into Lake Rosalind just after 12 PM on Sunday.
The pilot had departed from an airport near Stoney Creek and was on his way to the Saugeen Municipal Airport in Hanover.
