Owen Sound city staff are reviewing the voting system used on election day to see if it can be improved.
Corporate Services Director Glen Henry says there are a number of options to the current in-person balloting Owen Sound has been doing for years, including mail in ballots, telephone voting, or voting over the internet.
Henry says the existing system works fairly well, but they needed 140 workers to handle the jobs involved during the municipal vote.
The staff review should be done by late this year, in time for the budget process in February.
Henry says whatever system the city decides to go with, must be budgeted for over the next four years.
Only three of nine municipalities in Grey, Owen Sound, Southgate and West Grey, held in-person balloting this fall.
Owen Sound’s Corporate services Director says one goal of the whole review process is to try and get more involvement by the community.
In the last municipal election, voter turnout was just over 50 per cent.
