Lights, Candles, Christmas!
The Saugeen Conservation Area headquarters is hosting a Christmas in the Country celebration this weekend.
Manager of Communications Shannon Wood says the authentic celebration features a cast of hundreds of volunteers who put on demonstrations in costume.
The volunteers will act as blacksmiths, toymakers and kettle corn bakers within a pioneer encampment.
Wood notes the village gives the event an old fashioned feeling which is sometimes lost with newer technology.
However some technology will be present. Decorative lights along with candle lanterns will hang from the wooded pathways.
Some activities of the celebration include horse-drawn wagon rides and horse rides, Martin’s Animal Barn, train rides and motorized duck rides for the kids.
There will also be cookie decorating, lantern making, Make and Take a Craft and native storytelling.
Santa Claus will also be there all weekend in his igloo to talk to the kids.
Christmas in the Country began last night with more celebrating to be done on Saturday from 2 PM to 10 PM and wraps up Sunday from 2 to 7 PM.
Woods notes the event looks better in the evening, however activities will be done during the day as well.
Admission is 7 dollars for adults, 2 dollars for kids and pre-schoolers get in free.
