A last minute deal has been struck between OPSEU and the Bruce Peninsula Association for Community Living.
Some 60 counsellors were set to strike at midnight last night, but the agreement was reached late Thursday.
The two sides met all day with a mediator in an effort to work out a first ever contract for the workers.
OPSEU spokesperson Ted Loughead says the union was certified as the bargaining agent for the part time workers in 2009 and they have been negotiating a deal since then.
Community living operates 4 group homes and two day programs in Wiarton and workers help individuals with developmental or emotional disabilities.
Workers will vote on the new deal on Monday and the employer will vote on the package on Tuesday next week.
