Only 3 months into the program — the Bruce Grey Catholic School Board is already calling the new full day kindergarten program a success.
Kindergarten students at Hanover’s Holy Family School and Sacred Heart School in Mildmay are exceeding the expectations of the School Board.
Catholic Superintendent of Education Catherine Montreuil says many students in the program are months ahead of where they traditionally should be in reading and writing.
Montreuil says full day learning is providing these students with a real education edge.
She adds reading and writing are not the only areas of focus — but social skills, play and spirituality are also stressed to help form well rounded students.
Montreuil adds both parents and students have adjusted well to the program.
She suspects Grade 1 teachers will have to adjust their lessons and increase their expectations once these same students hit the first grade.
Montreuil calls it a wonderful success story and can hardly wait until all elementary schools have the same opportunity as Holy Family and Sacred Heart.
