It’s time for a review on how and what elected officials should be paid in Saugeen Shores.
Councillor Victoria Serda has called for the formation of a committee, made up of the general public, to study what kind of remuneration councillors should be getting.
Serda was reacting to a bylaw that was passed that states one-third of the money paid to elected members of council and its local board be deemed as a tax free allowance for expenses.
Council learned that the last such similar bylaw was passed just before the current council took office four years ago.
Serda says she wasn’t informed of the tax free allowance but doesn’t find that surprising.
She says there’s a lot of information that doesn’t seem to filter down to councillors.
