A major phone cable has been severed in downtown Owen Sound affecting homes and businesses in the core area.
Communications and Public Affairs Officer at Bell Canada, Norma Hughes Howard, tells Bayshore Broadcasting News this will be a long disruption.
Although there is no estimate of when everyone will have phone service again, Howard says it will not be Friday afternoon.
She says Bell crews will be working around the clock on repairing the line.
Miller Construction cut the phone cable in the core of Owen Sound this morning.
Some businesses — including some banks in downtown Owen Sound — have no ATM service because of the phone disruption.
But not all of the businesses are affected.
9-1-1 service is working — however the main line into Owen Sound Police is down.
Also, phone service to the schools on the west side of Owen Sound has been affected — including West Hill Secondary School, Dufferin Elementary and Hillcrest School.
