Despite the loss of a number of MS walk leaders, the organization is holding firm on it’s position concerning (CCSVI) MS liberation treatments.
Vice President of MS Canada in Ontario, Pauline Tardif, admits there have been a number of top fundraisers who have quit.
But she feels the fund raising effort in Ontario will not be severely impacted.
One of the top fund-raisers for the Owen Sound MS walk, Warren Bazinet recently cut ties with the organization.
He was the chair of the Owen Sound MS walk from 2007 to 2010, but resigned and is highly critical of the charity for refusing to support clinical trials of the controversial treatment.
Bazinet claims no one who was involved in fund raising in the last 10 years in Owen Sound, will be in the MS walk next year.
Tardif says MS Canada is extremely greatful for the work Bazinet and others have done.
She says the Society is funding diagnostic research into Liberation treatments, and if they show promise, they could move on to clinical trials.
Tardif understands the frustration some patients have over the issue and MS Canada is trying to fast-track the research to get answers quickly on how safe and successful the CCSVI treatment would be for MS patients.
