It was more about good-byes than anything else at Kincardine Council.
The meeting started with a singing review, from Deputy Mayor Laura Haight.
Now, Laura Haight wasn’t there, she’s vacationing in Barbados.
However Haight made arrangements for members of the Kincardine Theatre Guild who call themselves the singing telegram committee.
The song touched on things that have happened over the past four years with a premonition.
The song ends saying Laura sends her best wishes until she runs again.
The committee also sang about the newly elected coming on board, wondering if they’ll have any clue as to what is going on for the first few months.
Meanwhile, it was a special meeting for retiring councillor Ron Hewitt.
After 27 years in politics, he chose not to run in this past election.
Hewitt says he started in 1980 and since that time has attended approximately 25 hundred meetings; served three reeves and four mayors over that time and has worked with 25 councillors during that stint.
Although one Hewitt is leaving the council table, another Hewitt is about to join.
Ron’s neice, Candy Hewitt, is the new Ward 2 councillor, having defeated Gord Campbell.
The elder Hewitt says he has a ton of background information on just about everything that has gone on at the council level and all councillors are welcome to have access to it in the years ahead.
Kincardine’s inaugural meeting is set for Wednesday, December 1st.
