Along with the handing out of the United Way Rotary Children’s Fund grants for 2010, an important milestone was achieved.
Through a partnership between the United Way of Bruce Grey and area Rotary Clubs and the annual Winterama Event, the United Way was able to hand out just over 22,500 dollars to projects and agencies geared toward children.
On Wednesday — the United celebrated a milestone by handing out its 100 thousandth dollar since the creation of the United Way Rotary Children’s Fund.
United Way Executive Director Francesca Dobbyn says a lot of hard work and dedication has gone into the 100 thousand dollars raised for the fund — which is made up fundraising project and activities put on by local children.
Among the successful applicants is the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Hanover & District.
Executive Director Chantal Leduc says with the three thousand dollar grant from the United Way, they have now reached the 25 thousand dollar mark of their 38 thousand dollar goal to keep the organizations doors open.
Leduc says with a third of their tickets for the upcoming New Years Eve Gala fundraising event sold the Big Brothers and Sisters should be able to stay open passed January 2011.
Leduc adds since her organization receives no government funding, they are completely dependent on the United Way and other community fundraisers.
