Brockton is taking a new approach in its battle against blue green algae battle at Lake Rosalind and Marl Lake.
The municipality is forming a multi agency task force to investigate the problem and possible solutions as well as educate property owners about how blue green algae forms.
This special task force will be made up of representatives from the Lake Owners Association, the Ministry of Environment, Saugeen Conservation, the Source Water Protection Committee and Brockton Council.
Councillor Chris Peabody says by pooling all of these agencies together — he’s optimistic the lakes can be saved from this reoccurring algae problem.
Over the last few years — Lake Rosalind and Marl Lake residents have had to endure Do Not Drink the Water advisories due to an overgrowth of blue green algae.
The bacteria poses a number of health risks and also has a negative impact on property values.
Peabody says Council may also have to come up with tough new bylaws to tackle faulty septic systems and lawn fertilizers at the lakes.
But he says the task force will be responsible for those recommendations.
