It’s a long shot but the Kincardine Police Services Board would like to see a speed reduction in the east end of Tiverton.
Chair Bob Wilson says the board wants to reduce the speed from 60 kilometer an hour to 50 km/h near the fire hall and arena, along Highway 21.
Wilson says the average speed in the area is 76 km/hr and police are doing the best they can to ticket the speeders.
He says although there has been an accident in the area in the past four years, it’s ripe for one happening that could be tragic for a child who uses that area to get the arena or for the fire department which exits there on a call.
Kincardine Mayor Larry Kraemer empathizes with the request but it’s not the municipality’s call.
He says they’ve tried to get speed reduced at Highway 21 and Highway 9 at least once a year for this past four year term, to no avail.
Nevertheless, council will try again after the Public Works department does further research into the issue.
