Good news for Veyance Technologies in Owen Sound.
Human Resources Canada has approved the company’s application for the Work Share program.
Veyance — formerly Goodyear — currently has two shifts at the plant and 33 hourly employees working four, 10 hour days.
Under the Work Share program — the federal government would cover the cost for one day of work a week, for five weeks.
The Steelworkers Union has also approved the plan.
Plant Manager James Howell says the program will help them recover from a slowdown in orders that date back to the Spring.
Howell hopes the economy starts to pick up in early 2011.
