The provincial Liberal government has been under fire of late over the Harmonized Sales Tax after the Premier of B-C stepped down over the issue.
Gordan Campbell resigned last week and admitted one of the reasons was due to the HST.
Ontario Opposition parties are using the issue to suggest Premier Dalton McGuinty should also resign from office.
Huron Bruce Liberal MPP Carol Mitchell tells Bayshore Broadcasting News her government implemented the HST differently than British Columbia.
Mitchell says B-C just introduced the HST — instead of spending a lot of time looking at income taxes and introducing three instalments of cheques for families.
Mitchell adds the B-C government also brought in the Carbon Tax at the same time.
Mitchell also notes it was the Federal government that came to them, asking to harmonize the sales tax.
And Mitchell the Federal government gave 3.4 billion dollars for the HST and to give tax savings to people of Ontario.
Opposition leader Tim Hudak has said over the past week it’s not just the HST – but also hydro bills, the eco tax and auto insurance that are going through the roof.
Mitchell claims Hudak hasn’t told us what he wants to do — and she adds if the Progressive Conservatives get into office — they will destroy Ontario.
Mitchell also insists the HST has created jobs across Ontario.
