Local food producers will be meeting in Owen Sound on Monday for the second annual Grey Bruce Food Summit.
This event is by invitation only and is a great chance for all the folks who are involved with local food, to be together under one roof to meet, learn, and make plans to work together even more.
Freeman Boyd is with the Grey Bruce Agriculture and Culinary Association and says one of the issues the producers will be discussing involve the efficient distribution of local food.
He says for a farmer producing a fairly low value produce it does not make a lot of sense for him to drive 30 miles to sell about one hundred dollars worth of product.
Boyd says a panel of local food experts will share their ideas on how to improve this system.
He says managers of farmers markets in Grey Bruce also will be exploring ways to further improve the network as the number of markets continue to grow.
In addition the Grey Bruce Health Unit will have a presentation describing their new Healthy Communities Initiative and how local food fits into their programs.
The summit runs from 9 AM to 4 PM and is by invitation only.
