It was all about bridges and roads at a special ceremony in Kincardine.
It was the official opening Friday of the Huron Terrace Bridge in Kincardine.
But also acknowledgement of the completion of work on Forrester’s Bridge on Bruce Road 3 in Paisley, along with the reconstruction of Bruce Road 17 between Burgoyne and Port Elgin and the Lake Huron Shoreline Cycle Corridor along Bruce Roads 9 and 13, Southampton to Oliphant and near Ferndale.
At the ceremony, chair of the Bruce County roads committee Ron Oswald says it’s been a challenging year for the committee with a budget of some 20-million-dollars.
Oswald says it’s the biggest budget ever for the committee and will remain that way for a while, since next year’s budget is expected to be up to 5 million dollars less.
Meanwhile, county planner Brian Knox says the work has been funded by the federal and provincial governments who had representatives at the ceremony along with county and municipal participation.
All projects cost in the neighbourhood of 5 to 7 million dollars.
Kincardine Mayor Larry Kraemer was happy to see the Huron Terrace Bridge officially opened with Walker’s Lookout a focal point of the structure.
Kraemer says the feedback he’s received has been very positive about the lookout where one can sit and hear the phantom piper pipe down the sun in the summertime.
He says the view and the location is quite unique to Bruce County.
