The new Mayor Arran-Elderslie says the municipality is poised for new development.
Paul Eagleson was elected last Monday to replace the retiring Ron Oswald.
Eagleson says with a new 1.5 million dollar water tower in Tara, and the Big Dig now done in Chesley on the infrastructure there, the area can handle more growth now.
Eagleson says perhaps they should look at a part time Economic development officer to get the word out, that Arran-Elderslie is open for business.
He adds, they need new development to help pay for the improvements to infrastructure and to keep property taxes down.
Last year alone, Arran-Elderslie spent 360 thousand dollars on Hydro for the facilities it owns, and Eagleson says income is not keeping up with expenses.
The new Mayor says the township has been a big spender on capital projects for the last few years and they need to reign in spending, except for road and bridge work.
