Arlene Wright is seeking another term as warden of Grey County.
The Owen Sound city/county councillor is the first and to date only person to have declared an interest in the job for 2011.
The first meeting of the new county council will take place on the evening of December 7th.
If Wright has a challenger for the position, an election will be held that night. If there is no challenger, she will be acclaimed.
Wright defeated Southgate Deputy Mayor Brian Milne for the job of warden for 2010.
Milne is the new mayor-elect of Southgate and has not said publicly whether he’ll again seek the warden’s chair.
Wright says she would like to see through a number of current initiatives.
She would also like to help Grey’s municipalities examine the sharing of services between them.
She says she and county chief administrative officer Lance Thurston visited every council in the county in the past year and heard from most of them about the financial challenges they face.
Wright says the county has an obligation to help its municipalities with these challenges.
When Wright was chosen warden for 2010, it was to be the culmination of her political career.
She did not intend to run again for Owen Sound council, but she did stand for re-election and was acclaimed once again to the position of city/county councillor – the second straight time she’s been acclaimed to that job.
But Wright says she will definitely retire from politics at the end of the new term.
