Patient numbers and length of stay continues to decline at the Hanover and District Hospital.
Even though the Hanover Hospital is officially an 80 bed facility — it is only staffing for 36 beds.
That’s because patient numbers continue to decline.
And that’s why CEO Katrina Wilson is focusing its attention on its outpatient services — like clinics and Day surgeries — which are on the rise.
Wilson says the numbers seem to balance out.
Wilson says gone are the days when patients were routinely admitted while they waited to be diagnosed.
Wilson notes there is better technology today — and many people can receive treatment without being admitted.
The Hanover hospital’s percentage occupancy has decreased from 62 to 49 per cent.
The average length of stay has also dropped from 8.4 to 7.5 days.
