The Saugeen Conservation Authority is a step closer to securing funding for a Children’s Safety Village.
The Authority is seeking funding from Aviva, an insurance company that is offering funding for a community project based on online votes.
Authority Chair Doug Freiburger says a number of ideas are submitted and then put on the company’s website to allow users to vote for the best idea.
The Children’s Safety Village has made it through the latest round of voting.
Freiburger believes it’s something that’s really important to the community.
He says the safety village would be the first of its kind in Ontario, built on land donated by the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority.
The village would incorporate interactive training tools to involve kids in activities that will then teach them what to do in case of different emergencies.
Freiburger says it will allow kids to play, but learn about safety in regards to things like fire, traffic, and even agriculture because we live in a rural area.
The next round of online voting is underway and ends Friday November 5th.
Freiburger is encouraging everyone in the area to vote as much and often as possible.
