Damage is estimated at 550 to 600 thousand dollars in an early morning blaze on Lake Rosalind, just outside Hanover.
The Ontario Fire Marshalls Office has been called in to investigate.
Hanover Fire Chief Ken Roseborough says two older summer cottages on the waterfront were destroyed by the flames.
He says it does not look suspicious, but he asked the Fire Marshalls office to help determine the exact cause of the fire.
Hanover, Brockton and Elmwood fire departments all responded shortly after 5 AM on Thursday.
By the time fire crews arrived the two structures were fully engulfed.
Firefighters concentrated on preventing the flames from spreading to nearby homes and cottages.
No one was home at the time of the blaze.
The owners are from Elmira and Oshawa.
