The mould at the Kincardine Hospital is gone.
Today work begins on upgrading the air handling unit and duct work where the spores were discovered.
The Vice-President of Corporate Services reported to the South Bruce Grey Health Centre board of directors in Chesley on Wednesday that the mould was eliminated within three weeks of discovery in the south ventilation system of the Kincardine facility.
Walter Yewchyn said it cost 95 thousand dollars to do so but money was never an issue.
He says when you have mould in a hospital, you get rid of it.
Workers on two shifts working seven days a week got rid of all the mould within three weeks.
Yewchyn says with work beginning today on upgrading, they will do so with consideration for doctors and patients and will schedule the work so as not to interfere with hospital activities.
Yewchyn says from start to finish, the two projects plus various consultant fees is expected to cost 267 thousand dollars.
At no time were any staff or patients affected by the mould.
As soon as the mould was discovered in early September, all staff and patients at the hospital were informed.
