It was the 5th annual Spirit of Giving Dinner for Easter Seals at the CAW Family Education Centre and give they did.
Put on by Bruce Power and the many other supporters, some 100 thousand dollars was raised on Tuesday night with about 300 guests.
Dinner chair, the President and CEO of Bruce Power Duncan Hawthorne says combined with a similar dinner held recently in Toronto where 650 thousand dollars was raised.
And with Bruce Power’s donation of 220 thousand dollars — along with the 100 thousand raised Turesday — a cheque for 950 thousand dollars was presented to the Easter Seals organization for this year.
Hawthorne says they’re proud to become a significant fund-raising partner for Easter Seals.
He says this kind of fundraising would not be possible without the generosity of the contractors who work at the Bruce Power site.
Hawthorne says they’re always ready to help out a good cause.
The money raised is dedicated to helping children, youth, and young adults with physical disabilities.
Now, Bruce Power is taking on another fundraising challenge for the group.
Hawthorne says the company has committed to help Easter Seals raise 2.1 million dollars over the next three years towards an extension to Camp Woodeden in London, Ontario.
He says the camp is a summer vacation experience for Easter Seal kids that allows them to try things they’ve never tried before.
It also gives the parents of the children a bit of a rest during that vacation week.
