It’s not even Hallowe’en and yet it’s looking a lot like Christmas.
As much as three inches of snow accumulated on the ground in Wasaga Beach and Collingwood Friday morning — part of a wave of snow that settled from our area, over to Stratford, and across to Aurora.
Huronia West OPP say they were called to nine car crashes during the morning rush, and had half a dozen calls about dangerous conditions: people calling police when they see power lines down or tree branches on the roads.
Listeners tell us they saw a bright light at a transformer near Brillinger Road and River Road East, but Wasaga Distribution says they have not had a transformer explode.
What Wasaga Distribution’s Joanne Tackaberry does say though, is that lots of hydro wires came down in the heavy snow, some of them pulled down by falling branches that were also weighed down by snow.
As of the noon hour, all the power was restored.
Most of the snow is expected to melt away as we hit a high of 8 Celcius today and 13 tomorrow.
